Michael started with NvRWA in 2015 as a Drinking Water Circuit Water. The Circuit Rider is to give technical assistance to water systems as needed by the system. While learning the ropes of a circuit rider, Michael was given the opportunity to complete a rate analysis for a water system.
This opportunity gave Michael a desire to help all systems with rate analysis. Along with rate analysis, Michael found a likeness for Capital Improvement Projects and Fiscal Sustainability Plans.
In May of 2023, Michael took on the role of Wastewater Trainer and Technical Assistance Provider, providing wastewater systems onsite training and assistance as needed.
The work for both Circuit Rider and Wastewater Trainer and Technical Assistance Provider, although a majority of each position is driving, allowed Michael to see Nevada, operators, general managers, board members, and office personnel more often than at the yearly conference. The benefit is working with systems where similar issues arise. This is the benefit of the work. Circuit riders are on the road and encountering problems with all systems. The knowledge learned can then be passed on to other systems.
In August of 2023, Michael took on yet another role at NvRWA as Executive Director. Now at the helm of the organization that allowed him to reach out to systems and organizations across the state, Michael is in an even better position to make sure Rural Water System all across Nevada get the assistance they need, when they need it by being able to extend his desire to help through the entire NvRWA team.
As a Circuit Rider, Michael was once asked by an operator at the system he was assisting what he thought about the work. Michael said that the best part of the job was meeting the people.
When asked today, Michael says “NvRWA is a great job to have!”
