Who is NVRWA?
The NEVADA RURAL WATER
ASSOCIATION is an association comprised of
public and private utility systems. The Association also has a large number of vendors,
suppliers and professional groups who are associate members.
NVRWA's Vision Statement:
To
be the preferred Nevada rural community resource for training, technical assistance and
support services.
NVRWA's Mission Statement:
To
provide knowledge, resources, support, and assistance to our members that serve Nevada
communities.
NVRWA's Funding:
The Association is funded through a variety of grant programs sponsored
by USDA, SRF,
Membership dues, services, and sales of software, video training modules and related
promotional items. While the Association does not actively solicit contributions or
donations, such items are much appreciated and are generally tax deductible.
Services and Training:
The
Association provides a wide variety of services including technical assistance, training,
system evaluations, financial and funding assistance. Most Association services are free to members
and are available to nonmembers at a nominal cost.
The Association currently offers training and technical
assistance in the following areas:
- Water and Wastewater
operator certification.
- Solid Waste Management.
- Source Water Protection.
- Underground fuel
storage evaluation.
- Utility systems
inventories and evaluations.
- Rate structure
evaluations.
- Funding location
assistance.
- Regulatory compliance
assistance.
- Utility Board training.
- Operations management.
Fee-based services are offered
to meet site-specific needs such as interim operation and maintenance, or providing a
certified operator.
Long Range Goals and Strategies:
The
following goals and strategies were unanimously adopted by the Planning Committee on July
17, 1998 in Elko, Nevada, and modified on December 2, 2001 in Mesquite, Nevada
1. Better Internal Communications
Have
staff meetings (set staff meeting agendas and set regular meetings.)
Obtain
weekly updates from Executive Director and monthly reports from staff to include financial
statement summary (staff summary at every meeting).
Improve
communications devices (improve website).
Improve
Board communications

Better Informed Membership
Inform
membership of vision and mission statements.
Develop
a method to obtain member input (offer reward for response.)
Improve
website and magazine.
Create
an electronic monthly newsletter.
Invite
area members to quarterly board meetings and give locations.

Increase
membership (staff and board must promote membership
Adjust
membership dues. (Base dues on number of connections)

for-fee training

Conduct
annual Executive Director evaluation.

closer alliances with League of Cities, RCAC, NACO and other organizations.

best possible lobbying efforts for our members.
Agressively
pursue other funding resources.
